Homeschooling like a Butterfly

Can you homeschool? That really depends. Do you really want to homeschool? Are you truly dissatisfied with your child’s current education? I know I was, and because the answer to those questions was yes, I made it my goal to homeschool my children. This means that even if it gets tough, I’m homeschooling. This means that if I want to pursue personal achievements that get in the way of my homeschooling goal, I’m postponing them. Even if my children eat all the food in my pantry, I’m still homeschooling (though I may need to look at locking that pantry door, lol). You see homeschooling is a choice. It’s not something you should take lightly. However I assure you, these commitments you make to your children are extremely worth it and of course there is a reward coming.

So how do you homeschool like a butterfly? Well, my mind was made up when I started homeschooling that we would do all the things. But how? How can you raise that beautiful well-rounded human being without totally burning out and overwhelming your family? If you have ever watched a butterfly you’ll notice they will fly about looking for nectar, touching upon a flower for a moment, then on to the next. But can our homeschooling look like this? Yes! Homeschooling doesn’t require hours devoted to one specific subject when you use the Charlotte Mason method. When I found out how freeing this approach to homeschooling was I jumped on board with two feet. Not only are lessons short, but they are never sandwiched with random facts that children need memorize for the sake of memorizing. We learn real accounts of History through living books, real world math, study the arts, explore Gods creation daily, train on character building and learn life skills. Children really get on board when they discover we are not just teaching at them, but giving them tools on how to be:

1.A careful observer

2. An attentive listener

3. A well-informed researcher

4.A creative and intelligent speaker &

5. To remember how to above all else use good character traits that will follow them into adulthood.

Blessings,
